Why does one listing get three messages on the first day while another sits quietly for weeks? We wanted a real answer instead of guesswork, so we looked at how buyers actually behave on Ibiza Marketplace: which listings they save as favourites, which ones they start a conversation about, and which items end up marked as sold.

Ibiza Marketplace is a small, local platform, and we want to be upfront about that. The numbers below are modest, but they are real. They come straight from our own database and cover January 2025 to September 2026.

The Platform at a Glance

In the period we looked at, there were 229 listings from 98 different sellers. Of those listings, 58 were marked as sold, and buyers and sellers started 172 conversations with each other. That is the base for everything that follows.

Interest per Category

To compare categories fairly, we divided the number of favourites and conversations by the number of listings in each category. That way a big category does not automatically look better than a small one.

What the Numbers Suggest

  • Cars and electronics start the most conversations. A car listing received 1.65 conversations on average, an electronics listing 1.19. Both also collect the most favourites. A likely explanation: these are higher-value items, and buyers want to ask questions before they commit — about mileage, service history, battery health or whether a charger is included.
  • Home items are the backbone of the marketplace. With 76 listings, furniture and household goods make up by far the largest category. Each listing gets fewer chats (0.66) than a car, but these items move quickly: the 22 home items marked as sold went from listing to sold in a median of 5.3 days, the fastest in our data. Our best guess is that many people on the island are setting up a home and know what they want when they see it.
  • Toys get saved, but rarely discussed. Toy listings have a relatively high number of favourites (0.89) but few conversations (0.22). With only nine listings this could easily be chance, but it may be that parents bookmark items and come back later.
  • Bikes, fashion, kids and sports sit in the middle. These categories see roughly one conversation for every two listings. Lower prices probably mean fewer questions, and a clear photo and description often say enough.

Tips for Sellers

  • Cars and electronics: answer the questions before they are asked. Mention year, mileage, ITV status and known issues for vehicles. For electronics, list the model, storage, battery condition and what comes in the box. Buyers will still message you, but the conversation will be about the deal instead of the basics.
  • Furniture: give measurements and pickup details. Width, depth and height, the area where it can be collected, and whether you can help carry it down the stairs. Home buyers seem to decide fast, so make it easy for them.
  • Use real photos in daylight. Show the item from several angles and include any damage. Honest photos prevent wasted trips for both sides.
  • Reply quickly. A conversation is a buyer showing real interest. If you wait a day, they may already have found something else.
  • Price with a reason. Check similar listings on the platform and explain your price briefly, for example the original price and age. Mark the item as sold once it is gone, so buyers are not left waiting.

Tips for Buyers

  • Act fast on furniture. With a median of about five days until sold, a good sofa or table may not wait for you. If it fits your space, send a message the same day.
  • Prepare your questions for cars and electronics. Ask about paperwork, maintenance, battery health and the reason for selling. Arrange to see and test the item in person before paying.
  • Use favourites as a shortlist, not a reservation. Saving a listing does not hold it for you. If you are serious, contact the seller.

How We Measured This

We counted all non-deleted listings created between January 2025 and September 2026, with the favourites and buyer–seller conversations linked to them. “Sold” means the seller marked the listing as sold; some sellers forget, so the real number is probably higher. Time to sell is measured from the listing date to the moment it was marked as sold.

The sample is small. A single very popular listing can shift the average of a category with ten listings. Treat these figures as a snapshot of our community, not as a rule for the whole island.

The Bottom Line

Cars and electronics draw the most questions per listing, while furniture and household items are listed most often and tend to sell quickly. Whatever you are selling, clear information, honest photos and fast replies are what you control. We will update these numbers as the marketplace grows.
